Most of the barns I've painted in this series are located in Northern CA. As I've wandered through Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties, I've come across many beautiful barns, some old and falling down, others still in active use and well-maintained. To many who see them, they represent our dying agricultural heritage, as small family farms are subsumed by big agribusiness. To others, the barns are symbolic of a reenergized focus on sustainably raised food and a reconnection to the land.
