"Wild and free, let us be. It sounds romantic. but the reality is much darker"
Acrylic on canvas
72 x 40
A mustang, an icon of the Wild West, standing in a majestic western landscape. It's not as romantic as it looks. Their future is dire. Cattlemen don't want them competing with cattle for grazing land, and they've eliminated all natural predators - wolves. These wild horses are being rounded up, shipped to Mexico or Canada and slaughtered for dog food. Although it's been outlawed in the US, President Trump has asked the GAO to look at the feasibility of reopening abattoirs here to deal with the "problem".
